A Factory Default Reset (FDR) may be required when troubleshooting a Schlage RC Reader Controller or when preparing a device to be recommissioned after it has been removed from a site.
Before You Begin
Ensure the Reader Controller is connected to the network before starting the reset process.
The reset button is located on the back of the Reader Controller.
There are two types of resets available:
Network Reset – Reestablishes the network connection while retaining device settings.
Factory Default Reset (FDR) – Returns the device to its original factory settings.
Perform a Network Reset
Use a Network Reset if you need to reestablish the device's network connection without removing existing configurations.
Locate the reset button on the back of the Reader Controller.
Press and hold the reset button for approximately 5 seconds.
Release the button after:
1 green LED flash
1 short beep
Successful Network Reset
A successful Network Reset is indicated by:
1 green LED flash
1 short beep
The Reader Controller will attempt to reconnect using its existing network settings.
Perform a Factory Default Reset (FDR)
Use a Factory Default Reset when troubleshooting persistent issues or when preparing the device to be recommissioned.
Locate the reset button on the back of the Reader Controller.
Press and hold the reset button.
Continue holding until you see:
2 green LED flashes
2 beeps (approximately 10 seconds)
Release the button immediately after the second beep.
Successful Factory Default Reset
A successful FDR is indicated by:
A long, steady green light
A long beep
What Happens During an FDR?
A Factory Default Reset will:
Restore the Reader Controller to its original factory settings
Remove device configurations and stored databases
Require the device to be recaptured and recommissioned
Important: Performing an FDR does not remove the device from your ENGAGE account.
Important Timing Note
When performing an FDR:
Hold the reset button long enough to receive the first two beeps.
Release the button before 14 seconds have elapsed.
Holding the button too long will cancel the Factory Default Reset process.
If the reset does not complete successfully, repeat the process and pay close attention to the LED and beep indicators.
When Should I Perform a Factory Default Reset (FDR)?
A Factory Default Reset (FDR) should only be performed when necessary, as it restores the Reader Controller to its original factory settings and removes its existing configuration.
Common scenarios where an FDR may be required include:
Recommissioning a Reader Controller after it has been removed from a site.
Troubleshooting persistent issues when recommended by Quext Support or Engineering.
Preparing a Reader Controller for a new installation or setup.
Note: A Factory Default Reset does not remove the Reader Controller from your ENGAGE account. However, the device will need to be recaptured and recommissioned after the reset is complete.
